Paralakhemundi is the district headquarter of Gajapati district. It can be reached both by rail and road. The nearest railway station Palasa is 44 kms away. All trains connecting Howrah with the southern part of the country pass through Palasa and have halt here. There are buses connecting the trains which ply between Palasa and Parlakhemundi. There are also direct buses running between Parlakhemundi and Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Rayagada, Vizainagaram, Vishakapatnam etc. Vishakapatnam is the nearest airport and it is serviced by all major airlines operating in the country.
